Top Video Game Releases in Time for the Holidays

Everybody have fun tonight

As we move closer and closer to the holiday season, more of the year’s most anticipated video games are arriving. These games range from exciting action-adventure games to classic favorites with a new twist, and the gamer community has been abuzz with each new release.

Pokémon Sword and Shield

It seems as if the video game community has been waiting all year for the highly anticipated release of the newest editions to the Pokémon franchise. The two games mark the first time that a new region has been created exclusively for the Nintendo Switch platform. Players are introduced to the Galar region, which is based of off England and features new Pokémon such as Polteageist, Wooloo, and Sobble. New features include the wild area, which is the first sandbox-type feature in any of the main storyline Pokémon games.

While many fans of the series are excited to start adventuring, battling, and collecting in the new game, others are unhappy about changes the developers have made, including the lack of a National Pokédex. This lack means that players can’t fulfil one of the biggest Pokémon game goals—namely, catching them all.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

With shows such as “The Mandalorian” premiering and the final film in the main Star Wars saga set to release at the end of the year, fans have been looking forward to a new Star Wars game. From what early reviews have said, it seems Fallen Order may be a solid follow-up to favorites such as Knights of the Old Republic. Players will be able to use Force powers and their lightsaber to follow an action-packed storyline, all while exploring brand new worlds and encountering new aliens.

Although this game, unlike other Star Wars games, does not have an option to follow a Dark Side story path, ratings for the game are already very high.

Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima is one of the most well-known names in gaming, and his new game, Death Stranding, features his signature blend of beautiful scenery, imaginative story, and rich character development. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where a phenomenon called Death Stranding has caused dangerous monsters, which come from the place between life and death, to begin roaming the world. Players can explore their new world, take on missions, and build infrastructure while delivering important cargo across the devastated United States.

League of Legends

Perhaps the world’s most popular competitive online game, League of Legends has promised many interesting changes for its 10th ranked season. Players will encounter new landscapes and advantages in Summoner’s Rift, where most ranked games take place. Dragons will change the layout of the area itself, offering bonuses to teams that defeat them, while there may also be an opportunity to have the Rift Herald spawn more than once. A new champion, Senna, will also be available. In addition, Teamfight Tactics, a separate but connected game, has gotten a new revamp, with new champions added, for its second season.
